I have to start by asking you guys if you enjoyed Paul’s post on Monday? Was that not awesome stuff or what! See what happens when you build relationships with other bloggers!
I visit his blog often cause he’s got great stuff, he’s so knowledgeable with what he shares, I usually still don’t understand a few things so I just ask him lots of questions. Thank goodness he has a lot of patience with me. We got to talking and he told me he would love to help me further and a guest post/video was born.
With the information I have learned from him recently I made myself a promise that I was going to step up my game this year and shoot more videos. This is another reason this post was born.
I’ve had several requests just within the last few weeks asking me how I set up my social media icons below my posts. The plug-in I am using is called “Socialize” but there are a few settings you have to do that some people have found a little confusing.
What better way to explain how to do this then to just shoot a video and walk you through it. So, here is my version of how I set mine up and I’m sure you’ll find that it’s really pretty easy if you just follow along. Remember, if you have any questions after you’re done don’t hesitate to ask. So, are you ready?
What did you think? Pretty easy now right! I know there are so many out there to choose from so which one is your favorite? Do you have a preference? Have you used this one before or maybe you like the one that goes down the side of your post. If I’m not mistaken I think that’s just called “Share” right! Please correct me if I’m wrong.
The only reason I don’t like that one is because when I visit some blogs, I can’t even find them because they are off the page. I know it has to do with our monitor settings and with the larger monitors coming on the scene, I’m sure the resolutions are set differently. I know I like mine larger. I just don’t want people to have that same problem when they visit my blog.
So now it’s your turn… I always enjoy hearing from you so please be sure and share with me which plug-in is your favorite. I think we all switch around a lot so if there is one better then this one that you suggest I try just share it with me in the comments. I’m always open to trying new things. Can’t wait to hear what’s your favorite.
Okay guys, have the best day ever and I’ll chat with you soon.

Oh, my God, Adrienne. Am I the first one here today! Cause to celebrate:)
Thank you so much for this Adrienne. I know I was one of the people requesting this, because I don’t understand what the heck I have to do once I am in the Socialize plugin dashboard
I can’t watch the video where I am now, but I will as soon as I get home. This is perfect timing for me now since I just completely redesigned my blog look.
I know what you mean by not being able to see the icons depending on how your monitor is set, I have this problem too with some blogs. And, like you I am thinking of that with my own blog and want EVERYONE to be able to see everything!
Thanks again, Adrienne and have a great day!

Yep Sylviane you are the first one here today! Congratulations and you are one of the people I made this for.
You should find this pretty easy to do now with the instructions I have you walk through. With the redesign of your blog, this will just add that special something to it. And you can make your box any color you want, that’s what I like.
I’m excited that you are getting things in place now and it’s really looking great too.
Enjoy the video later and I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Hey Adrienne,
Great stuff, as always. This is ultimate guide for some one who is looking for adding social media icons.
My Two favorite social media plugins are Easy Mashable Social Bar and Share bar (for floating buttons in the blog posts).
Thanks for sharing this great post. Have a great time, Adrienne !!

Hi Devesh,
It’s been awhile my friend, great to see you. This is just one of many wouldn’t you agree?
So I’ve never heard of the Easy Mashable Social Bar but the Share bar I have. So I guess I had the right name for that. Is the Easy Mashable plug-in similar to the Share bar? Does it float down the side too or does it line them up similar to the Socialize plug-in. I love learning about these plug-ins because I want to check them out as well.
Thanks Devesh and it’s always a pleasure to see you. Sure hope you have a fabulous day and a wonderful weekend. Hope to catch up with you again soon.
Hey Adrienne,
Thanks for replying to the comment, so fast. I love the way you reply to blog comments, so quickly. Something that I need to learn from you
.
Yes, this just one of the many social media plugins. There are tens of social media plugins that does the same thing.
Easy Mashable Plugin is for adding an social media box in sidebar like Mashable Blog. You can read more about the plugin here – http://www.wpkube.com/how-to-add-a-mashable-style-social-media-box-to-wordpress/
Share Bar is another great social media plugin for adding floating buttons in the blog posts, created by Monji Dolon.

Hey Devesh,
Happy to hear that Devesh!
So do you feel that people see those social media icons over in your sidebar? I went and checked out your post to see what you were talking about but I know for me I don’t really pay that much attention to what’s in the sidebar with I’m blog commenting. Would just like to know what kind of attention those have received. I think it’s pretty cool looking for sure and adds a lot of them altogether. When you share is it for that particular post or just the site overall? Sorry for all the questions but I’d really like to learn about this one.
The Share Bar is the floating one that I don’t particularly care for only because I’ll visit some blogs and I can’t even see it. I miss it altogether and wonder why they don’t have any sharing icons on their blog. It’s a pain to reduce my screen size each time on different blogs.
Thanks Devesh, I appreciate you sharing this with me and helping me understand about them more.
Talk to you later.
Hey Adrienne,
It looks good and put all the social media buttons in one place. I’ve been using that plugin from a while now and it converts pretty well. I’m using it in sidebar and it works really well.
Yeah, it sucks but i still think floating share bar is a great way to get more votes/shares.
No worries. I’m always happy to help you in anyway i can.
Have a great weekend.

Yeah, I would like to do the side bar shares but I really hate how they look on some blogs so that kind of scares me that people will think the same thing when they come to my place. Dang it…
Appreciate that Devesh and have a great weekend yourself.
Good day Adrienne,
To answer your question, I really did enjoy Paul’s video on Monday. He shared some wonderful and useful information for us and I personally want to thank him and yourself for sharing it.
Concerning today’s post, I have been using Digg Digg, but I do like your box that’s included in your post. It seems like “Socialize” is a pretty neat plug in. I may have to incorporate it into my blog as well.
I loved your video, as usual. I do love that Texas accent! It’s the best! It always brings a smile to my face when I hear your cheeriness in each of your videos. I think that actually pushes your videos as well. Oh, and BTW… Blue is my favorite as well.
Thanks for sharing more awesomeness with us! You’re the best!

Good morning Deeone,
Thank you and I’m so glad you enjoyed Paul’s post. I guess you could say my first guest post was received well.
Me too, I switched from Digg Digg to Socialize because I did want the box. I thought it added a little something. I wish I had more leeway with what I could do with it but I’ll take what I can get for the moment. You never know, I might get some really cool help from this post with more suggestions on even cooler plug-ins. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Ah, you love my Texas accent? I tell you Deeone, I’m always laughing at myself when I shoot these no matter how serious I try to be. I know that Paul is probably cringing sometimes because I’m the exact opposite of being that professional person that I need to be. I’m sure if someone came across my video for the first time and didn’t know me they might think otherwise. Oh well, such is life. I’ll keep working on that.
Love, love, love blue! It’s such a pretty color so glad it’s your favorite as well.
Thanks Deeone and glad you enjoyed this post and video. Have the best day ever okay!

Hey Adrienne,
I am so sorry I couldn’t check out your last post. Will check it out soon.
Social media is so huge and there are so many options to choose from; I find it hard to come up with my favorite! Earlier when I began blogging, I just put too many social media button, and I integrated the Wibiya toolbar (which I did like) and some other sharing things on the side. What I failed to understand was that the post was “minimized” when a reader landed on my page. Now I go for minimal… in terms of social media buttons that is
Thanks for the walk through! Hope you have a lovely day!

Hi Hajra,
Thanks and when you have some time. It’s a guest post from Paul Wolfe and it’s all about videos. Great stuff!
I’ve never heard of the Wibiya toolbar. See, there’s so much stuff out there to use and I finally learned that when I land on a site and see something I like, I just ask them what they use. Dah! Silly me..
I do think we can clutter our posts up a lot and I for one don’t enjoy coming to a blog where it’s so cluttered. I never know which button I’m suppose to hit because there are so many of the same ones.
Appreciate the comment and hope the contest is going well. I’m rooting for you!

Wibiya is definitely fun… it pops out from below… and it gives you the freedom to has as many buttons as you want. So, at one place you can contain links to your Twitter, Facebook, Facebook page, Linkedin Profile, even translations, viewer maps and all that jazz!
The contest is going good… just that the competition is getting tougher!

I love your tutorial videos, Adrienne! You truly do help people achieve success online!
Thanks for this great informative tutorial. Making content easy to share is so important not only for a blogger’s benefit, but for the reader as well. There is nothing more frustrating than wanting to share someone’s content and finding it difficult to do so.
On my to-do list is adding the RT plug-in you have at the bottom of your posts. I know you’ve written about it before, but I like to add only 1 plug-in at a time and have time to test it before adding another. That way, if something goes wrong with the plug-in, I know which plug-in caused the problem!
Thanks for sharing the keys to your success!

I do find it frustrating when people don’t have their share buttons set up properly. I also don’t like finding two and three on one post, it’s just too confusing for us, which one do we use and why have so many of them?
If you’re talking about the box I have set up so the tweet message is already there, you’ll find the video I shot on how to do that in this post, “Make It Easy For Your Readers To ReTweet Your Post“. Hope you find that one helpful.

I’m also relatively certain that it’s for this reason so many people defer adding enhancements like this. Much awesomeness from you indeed!
I’m also glad to have noticed this comment from Chrysta because I have been wondering what this twitter box was called. Great timing and thanks for the link!

Ah thanks Cat, so glad you found this helpful.
I know how it is when people will suggest a plug-in but easily forget to tell you that there are just a few things involved to actually set it up. When you are new and don’t understand stuff, that’s hard enough to figure this all out. Just hope this will make it easy for some. Glad you felt that way. Yey!!
Ah Cat, all you have to do is ask girl. It’s the Twitter @Anywhere plug-in and box. I think there is only one setting on that which has changed or so I’ve been told but they are just calling the App key something else. If you need any help, give me a shout. More than happy to step in, hope you know that!
Thanks Cat and enjoy your evening!
Hi Adrienne,
Again I want to say thank you for doing this. The fact is I’ve been trying to put a similar thing on my blog but I’ve been using “ShareThis.” I earlier used “Digg Digg” but it did not display as I wanted since I had to manually code the display. If you visit my blog now you see that I’ve just used “ShareThis” also using the manual coding. Though it is a little better than what I got with Digg Digg, I think “Socialize” already have people like us in mind!
Will definitely work on this. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Adrienne, Congratulations on having Paul as a guest post. I thoroughly enjoyed his video, post and comments. I know I will always get a quality post here, Adrienne, no matter what.
I use Cute Profiles as a left side bar. They are opaque unless someone hovers over them so I don’t think of them as intrusive. I also use Sociable for sharing icons underneath my posts. They offer 99 choices of social media sites and icons. There’s a premium version that adds more functionality for a monthly fee, but I use the free version.
Great job on the video, Adrienne. I really like the blue box for your icons and the ability to sign up subscribers. Well done!

Hey Carolyn,
Thanks and I think my first guest post went over really well so I will expect the same to happen for the remainder of the year. Even when you share one with us too!
I’ll looking forward to that!
I use to use the paid version of the Sociable plug-in but it wasn’t a monthly fee back then. What I don’t like is you can’t put in your ID information. Like if I click on the Twitter button on your post, your Twitter ID isn’t included which kind of defeats the purpose. Facebook isn’t like that so I’m not sure why they set Twitter up and it’s the same with the paid version. But because you have your Twitter box already ready for us, that just makes it that much easier.
Thanks for sharing that with us Carolyn and glad you like the way I set mine up. I’m still not happy with everything I have underneath my post but maybe some day I’ll find what I want and be happy with that look. For now, it will do but I like the social icons. I’m very happy with that.

January 26, 2012 at 7:46 PM
Wow, great catch, Adrienne. I hadn’t noticed that! I think I’m going to delete that icon because I have no fewer than four other ways to tweet my posts, all that include my Twitter ID.
Sociable isn’t perfect. The email icon doesn’t work, so I had to remove that one. I wrote the developer but never heard back. It has a Print icon though and I know some of my readers print my articles so I’m going to stick with Sociable, deleting the Twitter icon.
Thanks so much for the catch. I still remember your awesome article about how important it is to include your Twitter ID in the tweets coming from your blog. Could you link that article for your other readers? That was yet another helpful Adrienne Smith article!

I always check them out but with the box automatically filled, I just always use that one. Of course I copy it and don’t always tweet it right then because I want to make sure I’m sharing it when my followers are online to see your fabulous content.
I love the way the sociable buttons are laid out which is why I bought that paid plug-in before. I didn’t like that I couldn’t include my information in there and they haven’t updated it to include Google+ or they hadn’t when I had it. But I love the way the buttons are lined up and to me they are much more attractive. I can see why you’d want to use them.
If you have a lot of people printing your articles Carolyn you need to read Brankica’s post on Tynt. I installed it on my site and have been watching it carefully. It’s a great service so check it out. You’ll love it.
I’ll definitely link to that one again Carolyn. It’s about editing your TweetMeMe button on your posts but it will help with the majority of the twitter icons. Linda saw that one today and is going to do a post on this subject I believe tomorrow.
Thanks Carolyn and hope this helped. By the way, I hope you saw Dino’s message about setting up your own Twitter app for Triberr. If you need those posts, let me know. Mine are all set up and I’m ready to go!
Enjoy your evening.

My developer said there may be issues having all of these rolled into one toolbar. Have you heard that, please? I have ShareThis right now; but it doesn’t have all the updates. Great video; you’re coming across as friendly and warm as I expected from your smile!

Hi Jayme and welcome back.
I see where Carolyn answered your questions for you and I hope you found that helpful.
What kind of issues? I’ve never had any problems whatsoever. I did once with the Digg Digg plug-in, like it was just having a bad icon day or something. They just quit working, they went haywire but it lasted one day and no more problems after that. But I did change to Socialize only because I wanted them all enclosed in a box. I think they stand out better so you can’t miss them which was what I was going for. I haven’t had any problems or issues whatsoever.
Thank you for sharing that and I’m always laughing at myself Jayme. I’m still a work in progress and I certainly don’t know it all. I give it my all though and love to share with my readers what I learn. Hope you found this helpful.

Hi Adrienne,
You truly are such a helpful leader! I understand that some people can figure out what to do by ‘fiddling’ with the Word Press site. I found the journey frustrating! There are A LOT of training material when we do a Google search. Yet, the information is so much that I felt overwhelmed. Besides, we often have to check out a number of not-so-good videos or sites before we can find something of value.
Looking back, I personalized would suggest the whole task (set up and plugins, RSS feed etc) to outsourced. Having said that, for people like me who have started somewhere, you video tutorial helps a lot.
You presented the information in a easy to follow manner. Well done!

Hi Viola,
Ah thanks, I appreciate that.
That’s me Viola, I just mess with it until I figure it out. I will say that you can waste a whole heck of a lot of time trying to figure some of this stuff out. I get so tired of Googling what I want to know but not finding what I want. It just makes me that more bound and determined to figure it out on my own. That’s why I’m so eager to share it with you all.
If you can afford to outsource it then that’s great but I like to know what the process is and what all is involved so I don’t get ripped off. But I know some things can be challenging which is why I created my free training site for those who really want to learn.
Thanks for sharing that and glad you enjoyed the video.
It is SOOOO ironic that you just posted this because a few days ago, I changed my social sharing buttons (I was using Digg Digg and I was having problems). And I didn’t know what to switch to! I even checked out your basic training to see if I could find anything about this very subject.
And when I didn’t find it, I went searching elsewhere
. I did want the sidebar down the left and I settled on a plugin called Twitter Facebook Social Share. What I like about it is that it’s fixed – it doesn’t move. And then on the homepage (rather than individual posts) it defaults to a thin bar above my posts that I can customize. I like it…but we’ll see. Now this video has me thinking about Share.
Will you go check out what I’ve got and let me now if it appears on your monitor correctly? I tried to check it out on different computers and browsers ad it seems okay.
Great video – and Paul’s post was fabulous!

Hey Ruth,
You know you could have just emailed me and asked me girl and saved that time searching.
I only had one problem with Digg Digg which is what I used before I switched. For one day it went haywire on me but after that one day it reverted back to working just fine. Have no idea what happened but then I saw Christian’s and wanted it in a box. I saw all these people giving me this CSS code to create the box and that was just way over my head.
I just went and checked it out and yours is fine on my monitor and I like the way it sits above the posts when on the home page. Now see, that’s a good one. I think the Share bar moves with your posts as they skim down it. I mean I really do like the ones on the side, out of the way, but it’s just not set right on everyone’s blog is the only thing I don’t like about them. Yours looks great though, good job!
Glad you enjoyed the video but you won’t be needing this one and SO glad you enjoyed Paul’s. I’m now going to have to put some time aside and go hunting for video content now.
Should be a great year!
Paul’s guest post was great. I really enjoyed it. I have switched my sharing icons more times than I care to think about. Been using Digg Digg for a while now with good success, at least I think it is working.
I haven’t heard any complaints. Anyway, in the near future I plan on making some more design changes to my blog as a whole so I am sort of taking notes and bookmarking useful information for when that comes.
There are so many choices, challenges and opportunities.

Like you, Adrienne, I have run into far too many problems with the bars running down the side of the blog. Some preclude me from reading the lower portion of a post while other preclude commenting. To me, they are more often irritating than inviting.

Welcome home Janet, we missed you. I missed visiting your blog and reading your inspirational messages. But I hope you had a great time while on the mainland.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed this video. I’ve been using it for a little over a month now I guess. I was using Digg Digg but the only difference is the box around it.
I feel the same way Janet. I know it has to do with the resolution of our screens and how they have their blogs set up. I really really really hate the ones that are right on top of the left side of the posts and I can’t read the posts because they are in the way. I find the majority of them annoying I must be honest but there are a hand full of blogs that I visit that are set up correctly. Or at least I have no problem reading their content.
Thank you and I do hope you enjoy Paul’s post. He did a fabulous job and I’m so grateful for the information that he shared with all of us.
Thank you, thank you, thank you… I tweeted about it when it hit below 50,000 I was so excited. I wanted to do it before the end of the year but I reached it before the end of this month so all is good. Thanks!!!
I appreciate that and I will have a fabulous weekend. Will be spending it with family and I hope you have a relaxing one and aren’t still playing catch up. So enjoy your day and your weekend as well. I hope to be seeing you very soon.
Even though I don’t use Socialise, I use a different plugin whose name escapes me at the moment, the one that places the social buttons on the edge of the post and stays there as you scroll down. Anyway, what I was going to say before I got side tracked was that I found your video very easy to follow.

I think that plug-in may be the one Ruth suggested since it sits still and doesn’t move. Yours does sit on the side and doesn’t cover up the post like some I’ve visited Sire. It looks nice.
Thanks, glad you found my video easy to follow and you are right. The more you do them the more comfortable you become. You just have to jump in right!
Thanks for visiting Sire and you have a fabulous day and a really fun weekend. I’ll come see you soon.
I did have to adjust a few settings for it to sit right ……Mmmm, maybe I should do my own video

Informative video Adrienne!
Firstly, I loved Paul’s video and i think it spoke a great deal. This surely is something I need to work on and would soon be starting off with it as well.
Secondly, I have been on the look out for switching over to a good plugin and this seems like the perfect answer for that. I have been using DiggDigg, similar to so many others as mentioned in the comments above, but it does give trouble off and on. Similarly, the slide bar also doesn’t always work out perfect and does have problems depending on the resolutions people use or their monitor width.
However, I was also wanting to have a few selected buttons right on top of the post- like Twitter, Facebook, Google+- is it possible to have only those on top and all the others right below the post? The reason being that some people are used to the buttons on top, while others prefer it right in the end.
If it is possible then I guess Socialize would be the perfect answer for me as well
Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful video and have a great weekend as well

Thank you Harleena I appreciate that and thank you also for sharing this post with your friends. You’re the best!
So glad you enjoyed Paul’s post and I would love to see some videos from you. People can just connect with you more through videos.
I had a few little problems with Digg Digg too although I really liked that plug-in and we are definitely in agreement about the one going down the side. I just don’t see a way around them ever looking the same on everyone’s blogs.
You can use separate plug-ins for the ones on the top and just not include those in the ones on the bottom if you prefer. I don’t think you have an option of putting them in both places with this plug-in.
Glad you enjoyed the video so if you do decide to switch, at least you now know how!
Have a great weekend Harleena…
Hey Harleena… I had terrible trouble with Digg Digg. It would work for a while and then went crazy… it doesn’t seem to play well with some other plugins (at least that’s what my programmer told me).
I’ve since switched to ShareBar and had much better luck.

Hi Adrienne.
I use a plugin called Share This and also the FaceBook social plugin, which I see you also use. I don’t know if it’s any better or worse, it’s just the one I used first and got used too.
Plugins are great, so easy and convenient to use.
I developed my first plugin recently to try to encourage better quality comments. It’s only a simple one and just adds a little drop down box in the comment form. I created it so that visitors don’t have to leave my page to see my comment guidelines. It’s not a total spam solution but has definately helped a little with the quality of comments.

Hi Steve,
The only problem I see with the social share buttons that you currently use is when I click on Twitter to share it with my followers, your Twitter ID is not set up. So for me, I don’t share content when they don’t have all of that properly in place. People want you to know that we shared your content and there’s no way of you knowing without that set up. The Facebook share button is included in this one as well.
I saw that when I commented earlier this week and that’s really cool. They are forewarned. You mentioned that it’s helped so congratulations. I have the GASP plug-in included with CommentLuv but I still get some spammy comments. For those that leave me half way decent ones but link to a product or don’t even share their name, I’ll take all their links out and respond but give them a little P.S. that unless they change something the next time they stop by, don’t bother.
Thanks Steve and enjoy your day!

Thank’s for the heads up Adrienna. I may might just switch the share this plug-in now that you have brought that to my attention.
Like you, I tend to give first time commenters the benefit of doubt if the comment is well meant. I tend to make any minor changes that need to be done to bring them in line with my guidelines and just let them know for next time. I’m getting a little off topic myself now but before I go, I just want to add that I think it’s great that you take the time to respond to all your comments. I can see myself becomming a regular visitor. I stumbled on your blog at Sherryl Perry’s. I’m glad I did.

No problem Steve.. I couldn’t even find your Twitter ID on your blog because I wanted to share your post about your plug-in. So if you get that changed or set up I’ll come back because I think that is a post worth sharing. Let’s face it, people want you to know that they are sharing your content so just by thanking them, that will go a LONG way.
I know not everyone reads my commenting rules but I have had a few people confront me on Twitter asking me why I didn’t approve their comment. I just told them they didn’t read my rules. I don’t want to be nasty about it at all but my blog isn’t for your advertising pleasure. It’s for you to enjoy my content, learn a few things and for us to get to know each other better. If that’s not what you’re all about then you can go play somewhere else. No problem, I won’t get my feelings hurt. I’m not for everyone. Oops, guess it was my turn to get off on a tangent. Sorry!
Thank you for that Steve, I will respond to every comment left at my place and I’ll visit yours and comment as well if your post is something I can relate to. I want to be respectful of my commenters because you took the time to stop by and read my post. I’m so glad you stopped by after seeing my link on Sherryl’s blog. Hi Adrienne.
I’m sorry and I hope you don’t think I’m taking up all of your comment space but I really thought I should bring this to your attention.
I took your advice on board and installed socialize. I really like it but have spotted a potential problem.
In the box, the text that asks to leave a comment or subscribe to rss, I clicked on the “leaving a comment” link. In my case the page did not change but the url did. I have not checked but this could pose a problem with duplicate content. As I said, I have not checked. For simplicity I just removed the link and replaced it with the text “like it or share it”. Anyway, I have taken up enough of your time and space but if you want to have a look, just hop over to my site and you can see what I have done.

Hey Adrienne,
Great video and well taught.
I am fortunate to have a custom box developed for me by my developer, so I don’t use the plugin for it. I am trying to learn a lot more coding for things such as this, but I don’t think I would video post about them as the risk of breaking peoples blogs is too high. I don’t think I could handle that
Well done great stuff Adrienne.

Hi Dan,
Why thank you Dan, I appreciate that.
I wish I had a custom box but I don’t know how to do all of that. I’m seriously considering hiring Brankica again to set some custom things up for me so I’m still thinking about all of that. Would love my opt-in form, my ads on the side and underneath my posts all have a similar look. I’m seriously thinking about that.
I don’t blame you Dan because we know that all themes are different so it could screw some of them up. I wouldn’t want to take that chance either.
Appreciate you stopping by and sharing your thoughts even though you are so much more sophisticated then the rest of us!
Have a wonderful weekend Dan!
Adrienne,
Great video and post.
I really like putting the social stuff in a box like this. I have been really struggling with where to put all of these buttons. I used Digg Digg for a while but never really liked that side box. I always felt like it took away from the rest of the website. So, I removed Digg Digg but eventually went back to it for lack of anything better.
I really like this box at the bottom. Thank you for sharing with us all how you do it.

Hi Dee Ann,
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video.
So you aren’t using this plug-in on your blog because you have the box around your’s too. I was wondering how you got yours centered more but I then got to thinking it might have to do with the width of my blog post. I can’t seem to figure out how to center those icons in the middle of that box instead of them all being just to the left. I played with it last night but no such luck.
I think the majority of us agree that Digg Digg does cause a few problems but not a whole lot and the ones down the side are usually just in the way on most posts. Not all though..
I appreciate your comment and thanks for that. Enjoy your day and have a great weekend.

Hi Adrienne,
Nice video and again timely. I’ve been meaning to ask you about that particular plugin, and where you got it from. Thanks you’ve done it again. Here is a tip; you can achieve a similar effect as the tag by using the “ ” tag. If you want to put more spaces in just seperate with semi colons, thus; This is more of an indent tag or used for a standard space.

HI Adrienne,
Oh dear, I made of mess of that. Of course the Browser as interpreted the tag and not shown it.
I’ll try again, (&)nbsp; I’ve had to isolate the ampersand. To use one would have to remove the brackets.

Hi Adrienne,
I have this plugin already installed, but your video is still a great help.
I agree with you about the sliding bar share thingy. I do not like it at all. The bar is either not clearly visible, or some of social site icons are hiding, and worst of all, is the scrolling up and down so you can see what is behind the share bar.
I really must combat my shyness, and concerns that not everyone will understand my Yorkshire accent, and get some videos done.
As always, you are an inspiration,

There is one blog I visit in particular and her share bar runs off the page. I can’t see the buttons that are on the bottom because they just have disappeared. That just drives me nuts so I don’t share her content. Her loss I suppose because she loves that plug-in.
Yep Barry, you need to get over that shyness because just think of all the people you can help that just might have the same accent as you. They might be feeling the same things you are. So, can we see some from you soon?

Hi Adrienne,
I came over a short time ago to copy your URL into a post and you only had 32 comments at the time… filling up quick
Thanks for creating the video and showing us how easy it is to set up Socialize. I’m currently using Twitter Facebook Social Share and like the way it looks but there’s always something missing
and on that one I have started to notice that people are not sharing my posts on Facebook
I think this may be because it’s just a like button and not a share button, with the share button allowing people to enter text and so include the blog owners name to show them you’ve shared it. I know about this as I’m the same: Rather just hit the like button I like to enter text and let them know I’ve shared
I noticed that you used to have a Facebook share button but have gone back to a like button, why is that Adrienne?
I noticed you mention a share button during the video but didn’t say why you chose the like instead. Was that referring to Facebook?
Have a great weekend Adrienne,

Hey Barry,
I think we’ve about doubled now.. I love it when people enjoy my content, that puts such a big smile on my face.
Your share button on your blog looks great on my computer Barry. There are only really a couple that I visit on a regular basis that look really good and stay to the side of the post like they should.
So you switched to the like button for Facebook too. I didn’t want people to think that they had to share every post they visit because let’s be honest. Your wall can fill up fast if you share everyone’s posts with your friends on Facebook even if we do think it’s fabulous. They start to get tired of it quick. On Facebook, people enjoy more interaction and they don’t like to be taken off of Facebook which they would have to do if they click on a post. I didn’t want them to feel obligated which is why I have the like button instead. I’ll take the like and if they want to share it on Facebook, I’ll be happy about that too. Make sense?
The share button I was referencing in the video is the “share bar” down the side like you have. I knew that the name was share something but wasn’t completely sure.
Thanks Barry and I’ll be by here in a bit to read your latest post too. I’ve been waiting on you to write a new one so I can’t wait to see what you’ve got for us.
See you soon!
Adrienne,
You must be reading my mind or something…maybe you have a secret webcam set up in my home office. Strange but true, I was just thinking that I should update my social connect buttons and poof here a blog post from Adrienne about it. I might as well just turn over my wish list to you and see where this goes! haha.
The idea of having connection buttons on your blog is perfect for several reasons. It allows others to stalk you all over social media while you are harvesting valuable real estate. There’s also the social proof as well as multiple connection and reach out methods. If you are playing on other social media sites or just have an account, let others know. You never know who will see a comment or post and follow you all the way into your funnel.

Great video, Adrienne and I’ve always liked your ‘share box’. The video (as always!) was very easy to understand.. but hmm… guess what? This didn’t work for me at ALL! I can’t work out why. I was using Shareaholic (I’ve never really liked it) which I uninstalled and then installed and activated Socialize. But it never appeared on my blog. I deleted it and re-installed it again. Still didn’t work.
I haven’t upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress (separate issue!)… Do you think it’s because I haven’t upgraded to 3.3.1? Has anyone else experienced this? I couldn’t see any other comments from bloggers who had this problem.

Oh no, it didn’t appear at all? Did you have the boxes checked to appear on your posts? That could be the reason or it’s not compatible with your theme would be the only things I can think of for why it wouldn’t work for you. That’s strange…
I would’t think it would have anything to do with not upgrading. Why don’t you upgrade and the try it and see if it works. No one so far has had any problems and I’ve had about four people install it now. There might be more but they haven’t let me know and I haven’t heard of this not working for anyone. That’s really strange Kirsten. Let me know what happens okay! What theme are you using by the way?
I feel your frustration girl!
Oh my giddy aunt, Adrienne! I feel like such a putz! OK so it is there… it’s just that because my posts all appear on my home page (in their entirety), I couldn’t see it. When I actually go to the page that my post appears on, it is there. So that has taught me a little about how my site is structured at least…
And I updated to 3.3.1 with NO dramas. WHAT was I worried about?! I’m using a custom-made theme which was why I was so paranoid that it would fall apart when I upgraded.
I need to man up! Thanks for your support, Adrienne!!

Great tutorial there, you always make it so easy. I do like the closed in boxes at the bottom of posts, it stands out nicely and gives it all a clean and tidy look. I will have a wee look at Socialize. One question, with tweetmeme being included in the Socialize plugin, do you still need to have the tweetmeme plugin or can that then be deleted? Something I need to have a look into as well, do I really need all these plugins?

Firstly loved the video presentation – very slick and easy to follow.
I have used the floating side bar for a while and I like it but I agree with you not all readers can see the bar which is why I used Digg Digg to add share buttons at the top of the post too.
I have been thinking for a while that it makes more sense to have them at the bottom and as per usual the Universe provided me with the solution via your post. Got to love that!!

Have fun playing Marcus and have an enjoyable weekend too!
Thanks!

Thank you, so glad you’re finding my videos helpful. I love hearing that!
I do remember you telling me that you’ll be moving over to WordPress so I’m really happy to hear that. I’m so excited for you.
Bitly is a link shortening service but what I like about it is that it will give you quite a bit of information as well. Take for instance you are sharing a particular link and you want to know how many people have actually clicked on it. This service will tell you not only that but where the referring sites are coming from, what country and even the conversations that are going on around that topic. It’s a great little service and it’s all free.
Thank you Lenia, I had a wonderful weekend. It was spent with family which is why I’m a little later replying to your comment.
Have a really great week okay!
See you again soon.

Yeah, WordPress’s free platform still doesn’t allow plug-ins I’m afraid. Oh well, at least you have share buttons.

Hey Adrienne,
Great job Adrienne ! I also liked the other post subjects you have to choose from. I saw 3 I want to read.. great job ! have a great weekend !

Gee I really liked this because I have noticed your button and I LIKE IT!. I tried on my Wordpress Dashboard but I may have to upgrade first because “plugins” is not there now. Do you think I should up grade? I have heard some good and bad. I think Ruth Zive did a post on it a while back about it not being so great and I know I saw back about a month ago Dan Gheesling said he was waiting. Not sure if he has now though.
Hey I’m not kidding, you are really good Adrienne! You are good on video.. You’re relaxed and the part that comes across so well is that you’re just being yourself and talking as if you are in your living room with friends. You gave easy instructions and they were really clear and easy to follow along. I tried but only got so far being I may need to upgrade to see what I need to to do this… but I liked your video ! nice to hear your voice!

Hi Colleen,
You are using the free WordPress platform so you can’t use any plug-ins I’m afraid. So this post really won’t help you unless you upgrade to a self hosted blog.
I would assume that their free platform would need upgrading as well. I have never used their free platform but if they call for it being upgraded then I would definitely do that for sure. Dan and Ruth have self hosted blogs and the reason we wait at least a week before upgrading is so that when they do have a major change with WordPress it will give the plug-in creators time to upgrade their plug-ins so that they will remain compatible. This doesn’t apply to you I’m afraid.
Glad you enjoyed the video and that I come across so that you can understand what I’m saying and that I feel rather comfortable sharing this content. I do my best to make this easier for people. Sounds like I’m doing a decent job from what you shared. Yey!!
Thanks Colleen and hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend. I most definitely have, spent it with family so now I’m playing catch up on my comments! Oh boy!
Have a really great week and I’m sure we’ll chat again this week. So, see you then.
Adrienne,
I’ve been using AddThis for a while, because an acquaintance convinced me that it records stats on social media sharing. It is easy enough to use, but the truth is, I never check the stats. I’ve been tempted to try Wibiya, the one Hajra mentioned. I used to use Sexy Bookmarks – which was a nice plugin with a fun bounce to it.

Hi Leora,
I’ve used Sexy Bookmarks in the past but only really used a few of them and I found that people weren’t eager to click on them to share so I wanted something a little more out there.
I check my stats several different places so I don’t really need that with the social share icons.
I’m not familiar with Wibiya, I mean I probably have seen it but wasn’t aware. I say you use whichever one you want but for those who want something like this one, this is how you set it up.
Hi Adrienne,
I LOVED THIS VIDEO! Really, thank you for showing us how to put these icons under our posts. I always wondered how some have their icons like this and thought it is some coding that I have to do. It just makes it look way better when all the icons are all the same size like you have them over here. Thanks for sharing Adrienne, always love coming to your site

Hi Dia,
Thank you Dia, I’m so happy to hear that.
I know, a lot of times we all think it’s much more difficult then it really is to set up. Which is why I love sharing with everyone things I’ve learned how to do which were really pretty simple once you understand what all to do. I don’t like visiting a blog and their social buttons are scattered everywhere.
Glad you liked it and found this one helpful. So will we be seeing this one over at your place soon?
Enjoy your week Dia!
Yep I just did Adrienne
Now the icons are big and next to each other like what I wanted. Thanks again my friend and I look forward to reading more posts about social media

Glad this was helpful and I’ll look forward to more wonderful tips from you as well Dia.
Now, have a great week!
Hey Adrienne,
Well, you are just becoming such a video whiz kid! Seriously, love your style.. your videos seems very comfortable… should keep doing more.
Personally I use the ShareBar plugin because I like the idea of having a floating social media bar that is visible at all points of the post. But I have had a few tech issues with it, so point well taken. I love the look and feel of your share box with Sociable… very clean design and easy to use.
Congrats for stepping up and showing your leadership in this way!

Hi Bob,
I’ve heard of a few people who have had issues with the share bar but I had a few issues with Digg Digg which is the one I was using before this one. I don’t know, maybe the creators don’t upgrade them often enough when WordPress does, who knows. I know a lot of people like the one floating down the side and like I’ve mentioned, I really like it too. But I have issues with some people’s blogs where they either don’t show up at all or you can barely see them. You have to readjust your screen size each time and that’s a royal pain in my opinion. To each his own though.
For those who like this set up they now know how to do it and I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos. I promise to keep them coming but I won’t do them in every post. Give you guys a little break!
Thanks Bob, I appreciate that! Have a wonderful day and a fabulous week!

I think I am going to try this. I hope that it will get my Tweetme box back up, I still can’t figure out where it went even after going through all my settings several times and changing things…took out bit.ly once because I had problems, but put it back in and it still doesn’t show up. So, I am going to give this a try and hope it solves the problem
Thanks for the detailed instructions, Adrienne.
Have a GREAT Day!

Maybe it’s your theme Linda like if they’ve updated it and changed some things but I can’t think why that would do that with your TweetMeMe button. I think Barry and Dee Ann have that same theme so check with them if this doesn’t work for you. I used that theme on my affiliate blog when I first put it up and I didn’t have any problems with my social share buttons.
Hope this works for you Linda and thanks for stopping by.
I’ll definitely have a great day and hope you do as well.

Oh, I figured out what inline means – they are horizontal along the left hand side of your post, so you can have them in both places – along the side and at the bottom or one or the other. Just thought I would post in case anyone wants to know

Thanks Linda so I’ve heard a few people come back and share with me that they set theirs up that way. That’s good to know since I just didn’t test that at all.
I loved this article. I use sexybookmarks and it works quite well. I am looking at this one to see if I like the placement and usage better. I am always looking for better ways to make it easy for my readers to share. Thank for the video, as I think it makes things easier as well.

I use to use Sexybookmarks too Shannon and liked it for a bit but I wanted something that stood out a little more too. Plus with the addition of Google+, some of these social share buttons haven’t been updated to include this one either.
Hope you find this one easy to include on your blog.
Thank you Adrienne for this post and the video! I’ve tried a lot of plugins, but I never was really satisfied with them (and it was really frustrating to see that a lot of them were not updated and lacked Google+), and because of your article I’ve changed to Socialize – and it’s the first social media plugin that I think is good. It could have more options to configure things, but for now it’s a lot better than what I had before.

You are so welcome Peter and I’m glad to hear that you’ve already implemented it over at your site.
I agree, I wish we could do a little more with it but since it’s free I’m not going to complain too terribly much.
It’s better then some I’ve seen and a lot haven’t updated to include the Google+ button. That’s a must my friend, a must.
Love the look of your box Peter, great job!

Hey Adrienne,
Well I learnt something new today from this, Socialize!
I honestly don’t think I have much to add here since I have been keeping my site down to a very minimalist level already and I’m only using three social platforms: twitter, facebook and google+.
I am using something called Sharebar for this.
I’m planning to do a whole revamp and change the structure of my site, so right now I haven’t really bothered to include my own social media icons but they are on my to-do list!
Take care and thanks for the video, it was really helpful and it got me laughing when you said you just went with the Alert boxes and that they just worked LOL
Speak soon Adrienne and all the best you social media star, you!

Hey Sergio,
Thanks for stopping by and adding your two cents worth even though you are happy with your current set up. I know a lot of people like the share bar set up so I say whatever works for you.
Got a good laugh from me huh! See, I never claimed to be perfect. I just know what I know and to heck with all the rest my friend. Got to be a little entertaining I suppose! Glad I made you chuckle.
Hope you’re doing well Sergio. I need to stop by your place for a visit. I’ve been so darn busy lately but what else is new right!
Take care and have a beautiful day!
Hi Adrienne, I followed your instructions basically image by image but, it won’t work for me. The icons won’t show in the box but showing where I don’t want them, on the top… I don’t know what I am missing, but that’s OK, tried to long and I will keep what I have. If you have any idea, let me know

Hey Sylviane,
On the Display tab you want the Inline Button Alignment set to the left and the Inline Button Position set to Vertical. If you haven’t deactivated your other social icons, they may be the ones showing up in a different place. This box is set to position itself below your posts. You have to check to icons you want to display before any will actually show up in your box.
Hope that tip helped. There really isn’t anything more to it.
Ok, I had deactivated the other icons, but I didn’t think that button position was to be set on “vertical”. Will try that. Thanks as always, Adrienne.
