Since I seem to be on a roll at the moment, I decided to just finish this post off with the remainder of what I had intended to share with you about LinkedIn.
In this post I’ll show you how to make your links stand out on LinkedIn. In my last post I shared with you “How To Get Around In LinkedIn“. It’s geared more toward the business professional but isn’t that who we really all want to work with anyway?
In this video I show you how you can dress up your links so that when people view your profile, your website section won’t just say “Blog” or “Company Website” etc. I mean, that really doesn’t look very professional wouldn’t you agree? You know me, once I learned how to do this it was just a matter of time before I share it with you.
While I was there I also wanted to show you the quick and easy way to connect your other accounts so that they will show up on your profile as well. So, ready to learn some more cool tricks? Watch this.
Be sure and leave me your comments and let me know what you think plus if there is anything else you want to know, I’ll be more than happy to answer your questions. Trust me, I’m not an expert in LinkedIn but I’ve got some resources that I can refer to now. Yey!!!

P.S. I recently learned that LinkedIn has also decided to mess with our privacy settings so be sure and change yours. They are doing a Facebook on us now. Check out this post and change yours today.

Hey Barry,
Yey, the first commenter. Thanks for that Barry, it’s a pleasure to see your smiling face first thing in the morning.
See, I had a few more things to share about setting things up in LinkedIn so now I’m done. And my friend, I did this one because of your challenge so I’m in. It’s just been such a busy week for me that I’m already behind on my commenting. Looks like that’s what I’ll be doing all day today. So I’ll see all of you guys in a bit.
Glad you enjoyed the lesson and have a fabulous day/night!

It does not matter to me if i comment first or not. I am sure that Adrienne reads my comments and even responds to them on a timely manner. By the way, a good post again and to mirror on my comment in my earlier post, its all bout building professional networks and getting business.

Adrienne, you’d be a great social media expert.
When I see your photo, I immediately remember social media, believe it or not.
The same happens to me when I see Social Media expert, Mari Smith.
That’s why I suggest that you create a product or something like that about social media. I am sure you’ll make it there.

Hey Mr. Smiley!
I do seem to blog a lot about social media don’t I? But isn’t that what we bloggers are more interested in? Getting ourselves out there in that respect? I have been leaning a lot more toward that arena I do admit.
Wow, Mari Smith! She’s the expert, hands down. I’m flattered you lump me in with her as far as being known for something. My first product I’m leaning toward blogging, getting the word out there, etc so yes… You’ll probably see something like that from me soon.
As always, fabulous to see you my friend. I’m WAY behind on my commenting this week so please forgive me. It’s been crazy busy but I do promise to visit everyone soon. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I try to put certain days aside to do just that but this has been a crazy busy week.
I was interviewed by Diana Simons and my interview wasn’t suppose to go live until the 21st but she jumped the gun and posted it early so I found myself replying to a lot of those comments yesterday. Yep, found out late about that post, how embarrassing.
Plus I have a guest post going live tomorrow over at Mavis Nong’s place so I’ve been trying to find the time to get my writing in for that and I’m still behind. Deadlines’ today so it’s do or die.
Had two conference calls yesterday so my week has been out of wack!
Hi Adrienne,
I need to get back and be more active on LinkedIn. I have setup my profile etc but will need to make tweaks. I love this series about LinkedIn because I just somehow don’t get it LOL. That’s why I am here to learn from you.

But I did find this tip rather helpful and I’m sure if I played around in it long enough, I would have eventually figured it all out. Hi Sam,
Yes indeed, people should be building relationships so that they can hopefully either work with these people later on, get referrals from them or you may end up partnering with some down the road. You never know who you’ll run across and what can come from that relationships. LinkedIn is great for the professional people because they are the workers. So, go get um…
Hi Adrienne,
I’ve enjoyed reading (and viewing) these couple of posts on LinkedIn. I’ve started using it more over the past month and I’m realising how much I have to learn. Your example on how to add the name of my websites to my profile is great – I’ve been wondering if it’s possible (and I still wonder why LinkedIn doesn’t do it as a default).

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate that! Welcome and glad you stopped by and shared your views. I always appreciate my readers and what they have to say.

As usual I got another nugget of information which was to link to my contact page so that’s pretty cool.
And to leave behind a little tip – remember to add your skills as tags in your profile. There is a ‘Skills’ title just after ‘Experience’ and before ‘Education’ which when you press edit will allow you to add tags for your skills.

Hi Adrienne,
First I just had to say you have an excellent community here on the site. I spent as much time reading through the comments as I did the article and video.
This is an often missed opportunity people leave out of their LinkedIn. The fact that LinkedIn gives you three well endorsed links with the anchor tag of your choice is an opportunity you shouldn’t ignore.
Excellent work once again, good luck with your very busy week. Hope you have a nice weekend.

You’re right, this is a missed opportunity because we just don’t know any better. Just hope this tip has helped others learn to finish off those links and pretty soon, people will be asking you how you did that. Yep, never be afraid to ask questions. It’s definitely how we all learn.
Thank you again and although I have another busy day today, I do intend to take a little time to myself this weekend. Not much though, I still have a lot of work to catch up on.
Enjoy your day and weekend as well Bryce and thanks again for stopping by. Always a pleasure.

Nicely done Adrienne. First, which program do you use to capture your computer screen like this? Second, I wish I could have more than one of my blogs showing up on LinkedIn, or even more than one post, but that’s what I seem to get. Then again, I set my blog up a couple of years ago so things might have changed since then.

Hey Mitch, thanks!
I use Camtasia for all my screen capture videos. Love this software.
I know they don’t give you the option of showing a lot of different sites so that’s one thing I don’t necessarily like about LinkedIn but I’m sure they are thinking, one company, one site, that’s it. We can keep our fingers crossed though that things might change. That would be nice.
I just checked it out… at $300, I think I’ll have to pass for now. lol

Hey, that’s something else we have in common Adrienne, we both use Camtasia, only I use the Mac versions which is somewhat cheaper. I love the quality of the production, but I still have a few things to learn. Like that closeup thingy

I had heard about it before, but never took the initiative to change them. =P Not sure if someone has mentioned this already, but I also learned that if we don’t have three websites, we should take the opportunity to link to different pages or sections of our blogs. I was having such a hard time figuring it out; that I finally felt it would be just easier to change the entire theme altogether. I’m loving the new theme!
Here’s the problem though, with the new theme there is a Top Bar Option; that allows social media icons. I already have the URL’s for most of them, but I can’t seem to figure out where to find the LinkedIn Icon URL or the Google+ Icon URL. Can you assist me with this information? If not, at the very least point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day thus far.
All the best.

Hey Deeone,
Thank you for your kind words, glad you found this post and video helpful.
To locate your LinkedIn URL to direct people to your profile from your blog, go to your profile. The box that has all your profile information in it, go to the very bottom of that box and you will see your “Public Profile” URL. Hope that was helpful. As far as the icons, here are several different links to access their icons from their site.

http://www.linkedin.com/profile?promoteProfile=
Hope you found that helpful!

Hey Adrienne,
I want to first thank you for your speedy response to my request; and in the same breath apologize for not doing the same. I try to steer clear of making excuses, but in this case, my excuse is a good one. You sent me on a sort of refresher course of sorts, to clean up my LinkedIn profile.
There’s been a couple of other changes as well on the rest of my social media sites, and I have you to thank for that. I’m sure by the time I catch up with your past posts I’m going to have a brand new online presence altogether. So that’s the reason I said that my excuse in this case, is a good one.
I did happen to look through the three links you provided me with, and found a lot of great information. I’m not sure though if I used the correct icon, but time will certainly tell. When I scroll over the spot the icon would have been place, it does disclose that I have a link to LinkedIn there… the icon isn’t visible at the moment, for whatever reason. I’m hoping that it just takes a minute to catch up with the upload.
At any rate, thank you for providing me with the information that I was seeking. I’ll be sure to let you know the outcome.
Enjoy the rest of your evening, all the best.

Hey Deeone,
Well I’m happy to hear that my information has been helpful and you’ve been off applying what you have learned. Music to my ears my friend. Thank you for sharing that with me and you are so very excused… No problem at all!
I just popped over to your blog and you have some things going on that probably need fixing. Not sure what’s up with the coding but your blogroll is in your top left hand corner and your header disappeared. Oops!!! Hey, I know the feeling. Trial and error. You just have to play around with some things.
I normally just copy the icons as an image and then link my URL to the image and then place the coding on my site. That’s how I do it, it’s just much easier for me. Hope that helped some.
Glad to hear that the information was helpful and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of each other very soon.
Take care,
Adrienne
Evening Adrienne,
Yes, I noticed the issue that you’re referring too. It’s currently being attended to by my web-hoster; hopefully they can repair it before the end of the evening. If not, then it should definitely be up and running by the morning. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
If I’m able to keep that theme, which I’m sure I’ll be able too; I’ll have to try the copy and pasting the icon.
There is one thing I can say about having a a self-hosted site; the trial and error comes enough to keep you on your toes. Jeez!
Well, have a great evening. I look forward to catching up on some of your past post on tomorrow. And once again, thank you for your help.
Enjoy the rest of your evening,
Deeone

Hi Deeone,
It’s repaired. I was leaving a comment earlier and when I pressed enter, it came back up. Back to looking really nice.
I know from time to time I’ve done that myself. I don’t have someone to do this for me, it’s all up to me. But you are right, that’s the good thing about having a self hosted blog, call your hosting provider and they’ll walk you through what needs to be done or they’ll do it. Mine has been great.
Happy reading!

Hi Michelle,
Thank you and I promise to still make it by your place. I had visited everyone’s blog the day they were due so I don’t think your video was up then. Am a little late getting back to them all that have added theirs after his last post. Looking forward to seeing yours too.
I appreciate your comment, thank you for that. Hope it was helpful and this just happened to be the topic I was on when Barry approached me about this. So everyone is getting a dose of LinkedIn from me!
See you soon.
Adrienne
Adrienne, aloha. Congratulations on another terrific video. Lady, you are a natural at making videos and explaining things in an easy-to-follow manner.
LinkedIn is evolving and becoming a more “attractive” platform. With personalizations such as you are suggesting, it will become easier for people to both find and to attract the people they want. Like anything, with patience, LI is an excellent place for networking.
Something that I have learned from LinkedIn pros is that you really only need to add/update on LI once or twice a day. It is not as interaction intensive as fb or twitter.
Well done, Adrienne. Please do keep these tutorial videos coming. Until later, aloha. Janet

Well you are hitting them all today aren’t you? What a busy woman you are and I so appreciate you taking the time to visit all my posts. Thank you so very much.
I’m so glad you found the video helpful and easy to understand. I do try to get my point across in that manner. You know that anything I learn, I’m sharing.
LinkedIn is definitely a lot different platform and not as interactive as Facebook. I was on there yesterday emailing my friends that I haven’t chatted with before and only a few really responded in a chatty way. The rest were just to the point and outta there. It’s a learning process but I did connect with some really interesting people and had some great conversations. I’m hanging in there. Will join some groups next and start meeting more people. I have a feeling it’s going to be a great place to connect.
Appreciate your comment Janet and I’ll definitely keep those tutorials coming. Watch careful for what you ask for. lol…
And you thought you were behind with commenting!! LOL Apologies for only getting here now Adrienne. I decided I needed come time away from things in order to gain clarity to make some decisions and I feel so much better for doing so.
Great video tutorial Adrienne and as I think I have said before I know very little about LinkedIn so anything I can learn is extremely valuable. I really don’t use LinkedIn much yet but I will be giving it some attention really soon and then all your training will be of great help to me. Thank you.

lol… Hey Marcus!
We all get there my friend, it’s the nature of our schedule. Things happen, we get thrown off from our daily duties and the next thing you know we are scrambling to head over to our favorite blogs to comment. Boy do I know the feeling!
Just happy to see you and happy to hear that you took a much needed break. Glad to know that things are back on the right path for you. You are so very deserving my friend.
Totally understand what you are saying Marcus which is why I’ve been behind on using it to it’s full capacity as well. Been spending a little time over there this week and I’m enjoying the connections I’ve made. Already got some wonderful recommendations under my belt too. That’s nice!
Appreciate your comment and thanks for stopping by. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Now, enjoy your day!
Just to add some more value to this post (if that’s possible) if you are looking to make your LinkedIn profile get some better results check out Lewis Howes’ Blog. He covers some of what Adrienne cover here but goes into more detail about using it as a marketing tool. He provided some great tips which I used in a social media strategy workshop I delivered yesterday which went down a storm. See http://www.lewishowes.com
Happy blogging

Thank you so much for sharing that with us. Aren’t you a sweetie for doing that. I will definitely check out Lewis’ blog and I appreciate you coming back over and letting me know.
I bet that your workshop was a big success. I watched one of your videos but the lady filming it was sitting kind of far back and my hearing isn’t so great. I had a hard time hearing you but could tell by the interaction in the room that you were doing a bang up job!
Thanks again Andy, really appreciate it!

Hi Adrienne, nice to ‘meet’ you and thank you for the post.
I’ve set up my websites on my LinkedIn page as you suggested but unfortunately I have a Blogger blog so the blog feature isn’t supported on LinkedIn – just Wordpress, which is a real pain.
But as I’ve found that’s just one of many reasons to change which to Wordpress (which I’ll evenutally get around to doing), your post reminded me of how I’m not using the full functionality of LinkedIn at all without the blog feature incorporated.
P.S. Love the Google +1 prompt to display ten blog articles

Hi Roz,
Welcome to my blog and glad you enjoyed this post. I’m sorry that LinkedIn doesn’t support blogger with that particular feature. Since I’ve had my WordPress blog for quite awhile now, I never realized it didn’t support other platforms.
I do hope you’ll switch over though. Trust me, you’ll have the time of your life with all the different things you can do. It’s really great so if you ever need any help, give me a shout.
Ah thanks for sharing that! This is part of the CommentLuv Premium beta plug-in I’m helping Andy test. I love all the different options it gives my readers. I appreciate you sharing that with me.
Thanks for your comment and I appreciate you stopping my today. Hope you’re enjoying your day.
Adrienne
Thank you for the warm welcome Adrienne. You’re right of course and I rue the day I randomly decided to go with Blogger
But hey ho, eventually I’ll get around to switching over (and maybe getting my own domain). As you’ll see though, it’s a personal blog, nothing commercial going on. I just like drumming up a bit of interest and a few quality comments once in a while. And I love the fact that the blog community is so co-operative. I keep finding to same posters everywhere.
All the best with your blog.

If it’s just a personal blog and not needed for the search engines than going the free route is the best way. It’s just not very cooperative when you want to do other things with it and I know in the past I’ve had problems leaving comments on blogger blogs. Luckily, that wasn’t the case when I visited your place a few minutes ago though.
I think you’re doing a wonderful job and you are very passionate about what you are sharing. In the end, that’s all that really matters anyway right!
Thanks Roz, I appreciate you taking the time to visit today.
Hi Roz
Actually LinkedIn does support other blogging platforms. If you look under the top menu when you are logged in and click on ‘More’, there is an application called Blog Link which will bring in your Blogger feed. See instructions here: http://www.linkedin.com/answers/technology/blogging/TCH_BLG/397896-34741283
Hope you sort that one out
Best wishes

Thank you so much for sharing that Andy! Roz and I both learned something new today! I appreciate that!
Hi there Andy, wow thanks I didn’t know that feature was there. I just added it and I think I need to do some tweaking as it’s pulled in my Google Buzz feed, presumably because it thinks it’s a blog and I have Google Plus listed on LinkedIn too.
Plus I’d like to edit out my slightly less professional musings from my blog
Thanks so much!

Nice to find a fellow Brit on here Roz (Or are you an American in London?)
My pleasure ladies – sometimes I think it is the less professional and ‘human side of us that allows us to connect with our audience more than the professionally crafted articles that might appear too polished. I think it is best to be authentic and if you are a little ‘off the wall’ that can endear rather than chase away people.
Don’t lose your individuality and authentic self – I like people to have an edge
If you do presentations try the slideshare or Google presentation applications.
Mind if I connect with you on LinkedIn Roz?

I’d be honoured to connect on LinkedIn, my profile is at http://uk.linkedin.com/in/rozbennetts
My blog is a personal one so when I say unprofessional musings I’m talking about jokey posts, articles about cars and so on, I really don’t know if they belong on LinkedIn so I think I had better edit them out
and the Google Buzz thing looks a bit strange.
