I hope you’ve found some useful information in my previous posts on how to get free traffic to your website. In today’s post I’m going to share with you another method I use.
Method #5 is using Conversation Marketing:
In the last 4 posts I have revealed the different marketing strategies that will help you get free traffic to your site. All of these strategies do have one thing in common. People are able to interact whether it’s through articles, Web 2.0 pages, ranking videos, adding feedback, commenting on posts, etc. But what about actually listening to the conversation that is already taking place!
There are literally tons of different conversations you can join regardless of the market you are targeting. Millions of people, all with their own opinions, have the ability to join or start any type of conversation thanks to the internet.
The difference between most forms of online communication and conversation marketing is where the conversation actually takes place.
The most common forms of private communication is through tools such as email but with conversation marketing this takes place in more public places like forums or blogs. Anyone can see the conversation, add to them or be influenced by them.
Here is what you need to do:
- Locate a conversation that is already taking place
- Join in the conversation
- Build your presence
It’s really that simple.
Let me give you a good example:
Let’s say you are at a party and you heard a group of people talking about a particular subject. You would walk up to that group, stand there and listen to what they are saying and then when the time is right add to the conversation. You might want to add your opinion, maybe discuss some feelings you may have or just your particular thoughts on the subject. If you are very knowledgeable on that particular subject, the other people in the group may look at you as an expert and ask your advice. This is the same outcome you want to happen with conversation marketing.
Just show up at the party, listen in on the conversations, add your input and you have now become the expert.
So where are the best places to go in order to find these types of conversations? My suggestions are:
- Forums
- Blog Comments
- Blog Trackbacks
Stay tuned for my next post where I will share with you another method that is extremely helpful is getting plenty of free traffic to your site.

Hi Adrienne,
Great advice, I use Twitter & Facebook as well for joining in discussions. I always try to add value and I find it is a good way to network with and building relationships of people you admire.
I look forward to your next post.

Thank you Sally, I always appreciate great input. All social networking sites are great for opening up conversation marketing. Twitter and Facebook are the most popular but I think others forget that there are other options available. Social networking is the very best way to build relationships indeed. Thanks again for stopping by.
In my case, i mostly make conversation through blog. I prefer blogs rather than forums because in forums, you have to register first before making any comments. Thanks for the great post Adrienne!

Forums have always been a great way to get recognition when you have something to offer. Blogs are easier, that I will agree, because there is no login information required. Well, there is on some of them now. But my helping others people will start paying attention to you and because your link is in your signature, they will get interested in what you are all about and there you have it. More traffic, and hopefully sales.
Thanks Bob, appreciate your comment.
In my opinion, conversation marketing is truly one of the best ways to get free traffic to your website. Forums and blogs are good places to influence and be influenced by people with same ventures as yours. These are also great venues to build your online presence and promote your website. Thanks for sharing this article!

I totally agree with you here Lisa. I know from my own experience that by just helping others by answering questions or sharing information that they may find helpful is the best way to make yourself more attractive to others. Being someone willing to help or reach out a hand. They will definitely come visit you before the person standing beside you yelling “come see my product”.
