I wrote my first guest post and it went live last week. I was so excited and eager to hear what others had to say about it. But instead of having everyone leave their comments on this post, I wanted them to leave them all on the actual guest post itself.
So my dilemma was trying to figure out how to disable comments in a WordPress post. I felt like such an idiot! I knew it was right in front of my face but I couldn’t figure it out for the life of me. So I went over to trusty old Google and did a search. Unfortunately, all the results came up for WordPress.com and they were over a year old.
After about an hour of searching I finally found the answer so I’m happy to share what I learned in this video.
You know I welcome all comments and if you haven’t had a chance to read my first guest post yet, I sure would appreciate the support. I’m hoping this will lead to other opportunities. You can find my post at:
Thanks again everyone! You’re the best!!!

Adrienne,
You are definitely not alone here. There are so many things to know about the Wordpress back end that I feel like even the experts don’t understand everything.
Sometimes the things we think are the easiest are not at all.

Hey Steve,
I think we take for granted that the way it’s always worked will remain. Once they upgraded to a newer version and everything wasn’t the same, I had forgotten how to actually locate some stuff because I haven’t had to mess with that almost since I started blogging a few years ago. I felt so stupid but at least I wasn’t afraid to admit it. Thank goodness I’m not the only one.
Thanks for your comment and again, for reaching out to me. I will be forever in your debt! I hope you never get tired of hearing that!
Have a fabulous day!
Adrienne
Haha! yes I’ve had that happen.
Sometimes you go on a Google hunt for something that really is right in front of your face.
But you can waste even more time if you don’t, because when you’re dealing with Wordpress you think “this should be so easy” that you just click around and still don’t find it.
Anyway I’m glad you figured it out. take care!

Oh thank goodness John.. I’m not the only one! We all know if we want to figure something out we go to Google. You type in what you think should bring up what you are looking for. For goodness sakes I even put the latest version and still didn’t find what I needed. Imagine that! But finally and then yes, felt really dumb that it had been staring me in the face all this time. If only! Oh well, it’s done now and I’m past it. Time to move on, right!
Thanks John, appreciate your comment. Have a wonderful day!
I’m a newbie, so this happens to me all the time! For example, I just realized last night that my theme (Headway) has an SEO tab and that I needed to add some critical information (site description!). When I have questions, I tend to start with Twitter, asking a few experts who usually give perfect instructions, before I go to Google.
Marianne Worley recently posted..Are You Speaking the Same Language as Your Customers
Hey Marianne.. You know Twitter is another great place to go but I’m very impatient and when I want to know something I need to know it right then and there. Sometimes people don’t get back to me quick enough which is why I usually go to Google and even YouTube. But you are right, there are so very helpful people on Twitter so never discard that.
LOL!!! I’ve SO been where you are and it’s frustrating sometimes. But as long as we learn we can then help others right!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment. I really appreciate your input!
Have a blessed afternoon,
Adrienne
Hi Adrienne,
Hey, you are definitely not alone in this. When I read your post about your guest post, of course I wanted to leave a comment and to my surprise, there was no comment section. So I was scratching my head on how you were doing that.
Anyway, I am so very thankful you did this video above, because now I KNOW how to do this if I ever do a guest post again.
Have an awesome week!
Ilka
P.S. If I don’t know how to do something, I’m pretty much like you, I search for the solution. Oftentimes I find a video tutorial on YouTube that explains what I need. So I’m really glad you did that video!
Ilka Flood recently posted..Sorry- Wrong Number – Life’s Interesting Ways to Connect People
Hey Ilka,
I didn’t want to wear all my readers out thinking that they would have to leave a comment both places. Instead, I wanted to get all the comments in one place so it really frustrated me when I couldn’t find how to do this. I go to YouTube as well for this but I couldn’t believe I kept coming up empty. Guess it’s because not too many people actually write about this since the recent upgrade to WP is still new. But, now we know!!! lol…
Thanks Ilka, I’ll definitely enjoy my week and you do the same.
It is so simple so we may overlook it. It is natural I think.

Adrienne,
Thanks for the heads up. I don’t know how many times I have spent an hour or two hunting for something just to find out it was right in front of my face. I am always happy to learn from someone else so I can save the time for more important things.
Great information.
Dee Ann
Thanks Dee Ann, I think we’ve all had those moments whether we want to admit them or not. I don’t know, I guess I just want to come across as someone who is STILL learning although I have come a very long way already. There are just going to be times when we have these moments. It’s just good to know we aren’t alone.
Have a great day and thanks for the comment.
Hi Adrienne,
I remember the good old days when GETTING comments was the problem, now it’s disabling them (LOL)

Hi Adrienne,
Silly girl, Yoda of WordPress say, tricks are for kids. I knew it, I just knew it … another clueless Blogger. I’ll handle things from here Adrienne!

The next time I have this problem to hell with Google. I’m coming straight to you! Dah!!! But at least I admit I’m clueless at times. Have you seen my comments though? I’m NOT the only one! Thank goodness I’m not in this alone. So barring anymore humiliation on my part, I’ll just ask the man who knows it all so watch out… I’m coming!!!
LOL!!! You’re my man!
OK Adrienne, I made it over to “Ending The Grind” and read your post. I think you have a great title for a book there with “Finally Living For Me”. I tried to leave a comment letting you know this at your post “My First Guest Post Is LIVE” but the comment thingie is broken … you need to get that fixed! Man ….. some Bloggers!
Jeffrey Morgan recently posted..Hard Coding Your Blog
Hey Jeffrey,
I see where you left a message and guess what! It posted and I responded so there; it’s not broke after all!! LOL!!! That would have made me nervous since I closed the comment section on my post.
That would make a good book don’t you think! Boy, I’ve definitely got enough that has happened to me in my life to write a book but some of my experiences are nothing compared to some of the stories I’ve heard!!! Mine might end up being rather boring. Ah well, I’ll leave that to the pros!!!
Hi Adrienne,
Thanks for sharing! And thanks for saving our time! Now I don’t have to spend one hour trying to solve this problem…
Keep sharing! We really enjoy that.
Have a great day.

Have a marvelous day my friend and I always appreciate your comments.
Adrienne
Thanks so much, Adrienne! What a great video. I thought there was something wrong with my blog, because like you, I used to simply check the options inside my post. I’ve been manually going to the “Discussion” tab to turn comments on and off. But no more, thanks to you. Yay!

Glad the video was helpful. It’s so frustrating when they upgrade things and I can’t seem to get around in these programs any longer. Some of them are so confusing. But, live and learn and then share it with others is my motto! LOL!!!
Thanks Allyson…
Hi Adrienne,
I have been reading your posts for a while already and I love your creativity in writing.
I haven’t come across this problem but certainly appreciate any great advice I can find whenever I have issues with my blog. It’s amazing though how much great information you can find out there but once in a while there are those little things that nobody seemed to have addressed yet.. So with this you have filled a knowledge gap!
I like your blog, way to go

Hi Franziska,
Thanks you for your comment, I really appreciate it! So happy to hear that you have been enjoying my blog. I love sharing helpful information with others.
I know that some people find it more and more difficult to find things to write about but all I do is take what I learn and share it with you. Even those little frustrating moments when I can’t find how to disable those darn comments. It’s probably not something everyone needs to know but at least they will have heard it first here and remember the next time this arises for them. At least I like to think so.
Thanks again and I’ll be sure to come visit your blog as well. Looking forward to it!
Adrienne
Hello Adrienne,
Every time I want to get new comments in my site. & you want to disable comments. I come across to this site for the first time. Then I read this article first. I think why I’ve not read this site before

Hey Ahsan,
I know, strange isn’t it! But I want comments on my site 99.9% of the time. That one particular post though, I wanted them all in one place and I’m glad I did that. Over 140 comments and still rising. So this tip came in handy just at the right time for me.
Glad to hear that this is your first visit and I hope you’ll be back. Appreciate your comment.
I had the same exact problem and couldn’t figure out how to enable the discussion panel. Thank you so much for posting this!

See, I knew I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t figure this out! Glad I could help Jolie!!!
You’re not the only one, i also had to do a google search first time
)
But i usually make searches including the year, like this: “wordpress how to disable comments 2011″, works better.

I had to put in the year too because they change so often. That’s why it was kind of hard to locate Martin!
I agree. Up until now there are still things about WordPress that I do not really know about.

They are updating their versions all the time so some things I forget how to do because once it’s been upgraded, you don’t necessarily do things the same way. Which is what happened when I went to disable comments. Problems solved now though!
Brilliant Adrienne – I think this would have taken me an hour as well if I hadn’t found your video
Thanks

Hey Adrienne! Its been a while. Had to come back and see how things are, I had some personal stuff going on so I took about 5 or 6 months off working on my site but I am back!
Sometimes wordpress seems like it should just be point and click easy. Sometimes doing something seemingly simple can be quite complicated to figure out if you don’t know already though. Thank god for google.

Hey Adam, where the heck have you been my friend? I hope all those personal things weren’t serious and everyone is okay, including you. I missed ya!
Boy do I ever know what you mean. It’s right in front of your face yet you don’t even see it. Do they always have to make things so complicated! Jeez.. Oh well like you said, thank goodness for trusty old Google. Where would we be without it!
Hey take care and glad to have you back. Enjoy your week!
Fortunately everyone is ok and it wasn’t too serious just a little road bump. I was actually in England a lot of the time. That’s where most of my family lives. It was really too busy to keep up with my site.
Recently have been cleaning it up a lot and things are looking good. It looks like you are still doing well which I am really happy to see.

That’s great to hear Adam, small road bumps are much better if anything at all is going to happen. Life gets in the way as well as family matters.
Glad to hear you’re back in it though, we’re glad you are back. I’ve definitely continued on for sure and things are going really well.
Thank you!
