build a websiteMost people are venturing away from building the basic website, especially for their personal information. You know, the “You, Inc.” model of introducing people to who you are and what you have to offer. When I first ventured online that was the only way to go but now most people are just creating WordPress blogs in order to introduce people to who they are and what they have to offer.

I know that many people who are new to the online industry are afraid of even trying to attempt a project such as building a blog or website. Let’s face it, most of us are none techies so that isn’t something that we would even try to consider. But I have learned that it’s not as hard as most people make it out to be.

Building a WordPress blog is really pretty simple. In order to control your own, you need to have a hosting service first. Once you have your hosting service in place, all you do is log into your account, go to your CPanel and then find the Software/Services section. Most services that host WordPress tell you to download Fantastico for your WordPress blog, but my service recently changed over to Simple Scripts. They are basically the same and I have not really seen a big difference. Your hosting service will walk you through what you need to do. You definitely have to have your own domain name before you jump into this but the rest is really easy. You download the program and then you just pick out a theme you like and start creating your blog. That’s it, you’re done.

Blogs are great for your personal information but you will still need to have capture pages and a website for your products and/or services that you are promoting online. If you want total control over your own sites, I suggest purchasing a program such as XSitePro. I have created all my sites using this program and trust me when I say that I am NO techie. I didn’t have the first clue how to do this but I was bound and determined to learn how. I’m so thankful that I did. There was a little bit of a learning curve but doesn’t everything?

With XSitePro they have custom templates already in place. They also have just plain sales templates for your basic capture pages. You just type in what you want and then you just preview your site before you publish it. You can add pictures, videos, music, tables, pretty much anything you want. You can resize it, change the colors, the backgrounds, the themes. It’s pretty flexible. When you are ready to publish your site and go live, you just click one button and you are done. I didn’t have any idea it could be this easy.

I have two different kinds of websites that I’ve created so feel free to take a look so you can see the end result. I love how I can change the themes as often as I want without having to recreate anything.

That’s my information on how to build a website which I hope you have found helpful. If you are considering either of these options and you still have a few questions, please shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to help you in any way.

Believe me when I say that if I can do this, anyone can….
