So glad to have you back. If you have missed any of my most recent posts, be sure to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Who the heck doesn’t love Twitter? It’s one of the leading social media platforms that allows individuals as well as businesses to post updates in a quick fashion from anywhere in the world.

In this world of information overload, Twitter only allows a 140 character message limit so it’s much easier to get right to the point and cut through all the fluff.

Once you have built up a following on Twitter it’s much easier to stay in contact with your “list”. Because Twitter messages are short and to the point, you can tweet more often which allows you to build up a relationship with your followers. It’s a much better way to stay in contact compared to more traditional marketing methods like email. Wouldn’t you get burnt out if you received 4 or more email messages daily from someone you had opted into their list?

Using Twitter is much more effective because your followers are voluntarily choosing to stay in communication with you because they are interested in what you have to say. When people are more interested, chances are they will eventually buy from you.

The most important message here is that Twitter is NOT a sales platform. This is where a lot of people mess up. Who wants to continually be pitched about someone’s product or service? Not me and I’m sure you don’t either. That is the quickest way to lose your followers and potential prospects.

The key to using Twitter is to build up credibility and establish relationships with your followers. Your goal is to add value to your followers. You do this through content or entertainment. Here are some examples:

  • Re-tweet something someone has posted. Perhaps a friend of yours has a great webinar they are hosting that you know will be beneficial to your list.
  • Post a quote that you feel will inspire others.
  • Genuinely interact with people who interact with you. Don’t come off as a snob.
  • Post a link to an article you wrote that is very informative.
  • Post a link to a cool video that you think is entertaining or just funny.
  • Post a link to a free report that you know has excellent information that is helpful.

Once you have built up credibility and mastered the art of conversation with your list you can then slip in a “sell” offer as often as once a day. No more than that though because you don’t want to overdo it.

Here is some Twitter Etiquette:

  • If someone follows you, follow them back.
  • If someone replies to your tweet, respond back to them.
  • Don’t type your posts in all CAPS. This is like yelling at someone and we don’t enjoy being yelled at.
  • Don’t give away too much information. Like telling people when you are leaving town if you have your address posted on other sites. Not good.

Here are just a few tools and resources that you may find beneficial:

  • www.search.twitter.com ~ (Free) Twitter Search helps you filter all the real-time information coursing through Twitter. You can also find out what is happening in the world beyond your personal timeline.
  • www.snipurl.com ~ (Free) Ever wonder if others find your content interesting? This site helps track how many people click links you posted. You can also shorten your URL’s you post so they fit into your Twitter posts.
  • www.twitpic.com ~ (Free) This service allows users to send and receive tweets and view profiles. Users can split the program into columns which show different things, for instance tweets from friends.
  • www.twitpic.com ~ (Free) This service allows you to share photos on Twitter.
  • www.ping.fm ~ (Free) This is my favorite site and it allows you to post to all your Social Media accounts with one push of a button. It will save you tons of time having to log into multiple accounts.

Hope this information has been helpful for understanding how to use Twitter. It’s definitely a great way to connect with friends and stay in contact. It can really be beneficial when used properly.

If you have any comments or suggestions, they are always welcome.
