build a websiteMost people are venturing away from building the basic website, especially for their personal information. You know, the “You, Inc.” model of introducing people to who you are and what you have to offer. When I first ventured online that was the only way to go but now most people are just creating WordPress blogs in order to introduce people to who they are and what they have to offer.

I know that many people who are new to the online industry are afraid of even trying to attempt a project such as building a blog or website. Let’s face it, most of us are none techies so that isn’t something that we would even try to consider. But I have learned that it’s not as hard as most people make it out to be.

Building a WordPress blog is really pretty simple. In order to control your own, you need to have a hosting service first. Once you have your hosting service in place, all you do is log into your account, go to your CPanel and then find the Software/Services section. Most services that host WordPress tell you to download Fantastico for your WordPress blog, but my service recently changed over to Simple Scripts. They are basically the same and I have not really seen a big difference. Your hosting service will walk you through what you need to do. You definitely have to have your own domain name before you jump into this but the rest is really easy. You download the program and then you just pick out a theme you like and start creating your blog. That’s it, you’re done.

Blogs are great for your personal information but you will still need to have capture pages and a website for your products and/or services that you are promoting online. If you want total control over your own sites, I suggest purchasing a program such as XSitePro. I have created all my sites using this program and trust me when I say that I am NO techie. I didn’t have the first clue how to do this but I was bound and determined to learn how. I’m so thankful that I did. There was a little bit of a learning curve but doesn’t everything?

With XSitePro they have custom templates already in place. They also have just plain sales templates for your basic capture pages. You just type in what you want and then you just preview your site before you publish it. You can add pictures, videos, music, tables, pretty much anything you want. You can resize it, change the colors, the backgrounds, the themes. It’s pretty flexible. When you are ready to publish your site and go live, you just click one button and you are done. I didn’t have any idea it could be this easy.

I have two different kinds of websites that I’ve created so feel free to take a look so you can see the end result. I love how I can change the themes as often as I want without having to recreate anything.

That’s my information on how to build a website which I hope you have found helpful. If you are considering either of these options and you still have a few questions, please shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to help you in any way.

Believe me when I say that if I can do this, anyone can….

I randomly browse blogs on the internet, and I discover your article to be very informational. I have already bookmark it on my browser, in order that I can view your weblog publish again later. Additionally, I’m wondering whether your weblog is open for hyperlink exchange, as I really want to change hyperlinks with you. I do not normally do this, however I hope that we are able to have a mutual hyperlink exchange. Let me know and have a great day!

Can you provide more resources on this? great article by the way. thanks

21 Adrienne June 16, 2010 at 3:54 PM

Glad you enjoyed the article. I have had several people approach me, especially after reading my case study in the EZine Articles blog, about helping them create a wordpress blog. I am currently in the process of creating a course that will walk you through exactly what to do step-by-step. I know there are some courses similar to this available online but I will follow up with some coaching in case some run across any problems or need extra help. As far as other resources you would like, give me an idea of what you are searching for and I will do my best to point you in the right direction. Hope that helped.

This is the first theme that has ever really caught my eye. Would love to have it!

23 Adrienne June 22, 2010 at 10:47 AM

I purchased the theme at DIY Themes. I really love how I can tweak and change things around just the way I want. And I’m no computer whiz either. You can read more about what they offer by clicking here.

I love your website! did you create this yourself or did you outsource it? Im looking for a blog design thats similar so thats the only reason I’m asking. Either way keep up the nice work I was impressed with your content really..

29 Adrienne June 29, 2010 at 2:42 PM

Ah thanks for your comment. The theme is “Thesis” and I set this up myself. Trust me when I tell you that I’m no pro at this either. I just asked questions and then applied the coding and changes myself. I went to fiverr.com and hired someone to create my header and that’s it. I prefer a clean and simple looking site so am very pleased with the outcome. Thesis has a lot you can do with it by changing up the look so it’s a great theme for tweaking just the way you want. Hope that helped.
