GoogleEntering the network marketing business can be a challenge but if you have a very common name, it can be very difficult to brand you and your website. Have you done a Google search for your name yet? If you have a very common name I’m sure millions of different results appeared.

Here are 10 tips for getting your name on the first page of Google. Remember you are ranking your name, not any company name.

1. Set up a Facebook Account
Google is pretty quick with indexing Facebook profiles. Be sure to enter all the information in your profile because this is a very important step. Always use your full name.

2. Set up a MySpace Account
Create a MySpace account using your full name.

3. Open a Twitter Account
Like Facebook, be sure and complete all the information in your profile section as well, including your full name.

4. Create a WordPress Blog
Google loves WordPress but it needs to be hosted by you with your name in the URL and title.

5. Submit to Ezine Articles
Write some articles and post them on EZine Articles. This is a PR6 site which is very popular with the search engines. Make sure to add your link in the resource box.

6. Join Linkedin
Linkedin is another free social media community like Facebook. Be sure and complete all the information in your profile section as well, including your full name.

7. Sign up with YouTube
Create a YouTube account. Once again, be sure when you complete your profile that it also includes your full name. Your videos should include educational videos, video testimonials or something entertaining. YouTube ranks very well in Google.

8. Create Google Profile
Complete a Google profile so that it will be displayed on Google when someone searches your name.

9. Video Sharing Sites
Distribute your videos on other video sharing sites such as Yahoo, Metacafe, Daily Motion, etc. You can use a free service like TubeMogul.com to upload videos to more than one video site simultaneously.

10. Comment on Blog Posts
Comment on other people’s blog posts and place a link back to your site.

I hope these 10 tips for getting your name on the first page of Google have been useful. If you really want to get on the first page of Google, try some more of these tips and see if you can’t get ranked on the first page in the near future.

Good luck!

Thanks for a few sensible writing here. I started my own blog in September of this year because my own home remodeling business is so slow. My wife’s work friends suggested I should start writing about home tips in the slow months to supplement our income. I’m giving it a shot, though its not as smooth for me as swinging a hammer :-) . Setting up websites with wordpress appear to be easier for me than Blog Engine and I’ve converted now mostly because one of my wifes friends designs sites. Anyways…thanks for a nice effort here. Best of luck in your blogging adventures.

Great post. Something to mention though is that Google may not be so keen on Ezine articles any more, following some changes in their algorithm.

Thanks Victoria,

It’s not that Google isn’t keen on EZine Articles, they are only interested in quality content which EZines was not approving in the past. That’s what hurt them and trust me, they are cleaning that mess up now. But articles will never die and they will be back which I’m very happy about.

Thanks for your comment though and you will notice this post was written way before Google did their latest thing! :-)
